I DID IT!

I have been walking & jogging for a about three months now.  I get up at 5 am to walk or jog.  I do this because I start watching babies at 6:45.  If I wait until they leave, I've cleaned house and made dinner, the last thing I want to do is exercise.  I am training to jog/run a 5k this Labor Day weekend.  I was excited when I finally could jog a mile straight, but really had my doubts that I could jog much further.  I figured that I would jog a mile of it and walk the rest.  Three days ago I decided that I would jog until I couldn't jog no more.  At one point (about 2 miles), I thought I would have to quite, but I kept going.  I found out you get a second wind.  When I finally stopped I looked at my trusty little "pedometer app" only to find out I jogged exactly 3.2 miles.  I DID IT!   I jogged a 5k.   Yesterday I jogged 3.5 miles.  Maybe I'll get up to 4 miles before the summer is over.   Now I will have to tell you that my time is not pretty.  It took me 40 minutes to jog the 5k.   Maybe that's what I need to work on next, moving just a tad bit faster.  I am still in disbelief that this person who couldn't jog the length of her front yard (150 ft) just a few short months ago, jogged a 5k.

Todays Recipe: "Baked Cod Sandwich with Mango Salsa"  I could eat this every week.

  1. Congrats on running 3.2 miles!! What a big accomplishment!!

How long did it take you before you were able to run 1 mile? My mom and I have been run/walking for about 3 months, and we are not there yet. This week we are going to run 9 minutes, walk 2, run 5 minutes, walk 2 minutes, then finish running 2 minutes. I am very nervous to run 9 minutes, the longest I've gone has been 6 minutes, but I know we can do it :)

I signed up for a 5k in July and November, I'm hoping I'll be able to run the whole 3.1 in November.

  2. I'm going to say around 2 1/2 months, maybe longer. I actually jog not run. My body is not quite ready for the running. I'm really hoping that when I shed another 10 pounds I'll be able to run.
Have you ever heard of "Couch to 5k"? It's an app, that will help you train for the 5k. It's pretty good.
You will be surprised and delighted when you find out that you can already run/jog that 9 minutes. Just keep pushing yourself and don't let your mind/body tell you that you can't do it.
Congratulations on training for that 5k. I'm really looking forward to running my first on in September.
